Buying militaria: fair appraisal, legally reviewed

We buy historical militaria from the 19th and 20th centuries, from a single decoration to a complete estate. Here you can see how we appraise and what you can rely on.

In shortSend photos, receive a free appraisal, decide afterwards. Every item is reviewed professionally and legally before purchase. Handover by post or in person in Berlin, payment by bank transfer, PayPal or cash.

What we buy

Our focus is on historical edged weapons, especially foreign daggers. We also buy items from these areas:

How we appraise

Our basis is experience from our own trade: our parent business DG.DE | Historica sells historical militaria and offers appraisals. We therefore know which items are in demand and what they achieve on the market. We look at:

Originality
Are all parts original and of the period?
Condition
Preservation, signs of use, repairs
Completeness
Scabbard, case, certificate, accessories
Rarity
How often does the item appear on the market?
Provenance
Family ownership, documents, link to a person
Demand
What are collectors looking for right now?

Legal review before every purchase

In Germany, items bearing symbols of unconstitutional organisations are subject to § 86 and § 86a of the Criminal Code (StGB). We review every item individually and tell you openly whether and how a purchase is possible. You do not have to assess anything in advance.

Handover and payment

  • Only after we agree: you send the items, well packed, by post.
  • Or you hand them over in person in Berlin by appointment.
  • Payment by bank transfer, PayPal or cash on handover in Berlin, or as agreed.

Why sell to a dealer?

At auction you often wait months for a result, pay fees and carry the risk that an item remains unsold. Online classifieds reach many people, but questions, accusations of forgery and unsafe payment methods cost time and nerves. Many platforms do not allow such items at all.

With a direct purchase you receive a concrete offer and know where you stand straight away. Whether that is the right route for you, you decide after our appraisal.

Frequently asked questions

Can I offer several items at once?

Yes. For larger quantities, overview photos and detail photos of the main items are enough at first. The form takes up to 10 files; please send further photos via WhatsApp or email.

Do you buy damaged items?

Yes, as long as they are of historical interest. Please photograph damage clearly so that we can take it into account.

What happens if I do not accept your offer?

Nothing. The appraisal remains free and you are under no obligation.

Do you have something we should look at?

Simply send us photos. The first appraisal is free, and you decide afterwards in your own time.
